Tirana Circus: Capturing the Heart of Performance Art

In my photography, I always begin with a clear subject in mind, yet I embrace spontaneity, allowing the moment to unfold naturally before my lens. When I started the Tirana Circus series, I initially focused on capturing the artists in action. However, I soon realized that something essential was missing—a connection between the photographer and the subjects. This realization prompted me to delve deeper and capture their portraits.

By adopting this approach, I was able to construct scenarios and gently direct the artists, placing them in suitable environments and illuminating them with ideal lighting. These portraits became my canvas, much like paintings, where I could express the emotions stirring within me. Each portrait carries a sense of melancholy, revealing glimpses of sadness amidst the vibrant world of the circus. While the artists strive to convey joy and color, the challenges of that time often hinder their efforts.
