Portraits – 800 Meters Underground
Bulqiza, Albania
These portraits were taken approximately 800 meters underground, in the chrome mine of Bulqiza, a place where people have worked under challenging conditions for decades.
My interest was not only in the workplace itself, but above all in the individuals who descend into the mine every day. Their faces reflect focus, routine, fatigue, but also pride and a sense of solidarity.
The aim was to meet these men at eye level and to give them space to be seen as they are without exaggeration, without dramatization. The portraits capture moments from a working life that remains largely invisible, even though it is a daily reality for many in the region.
