Listen to Me Carefully: Amplifying the Voices of Elderly Women in Albania

“Listen to Me Carefully” is a work in progress that addresses a significant challenge faced by elderly women in Albanian society: the lack of a dedicated media platform for self-expression. Although these women are revered and respected, their voices often go unheard in a culture that prioritizes youth and beauty. This societal focus on youthful appearances, particularly on social media, undermines the belief that true beauty is rooted in a lifetime of experiences.

Throughout my 30 years of photography, I have consistently been captivated by the strength and resilience of elderly women in Albania. While they have featured prominently in many of my projects, I felt compelled to dedicate an entire project to them. Perhaps this is because, as I age, I am beginning to understand the experience of no longer being in the spotlight of societal attention.

With this project, I aim to provide Albanian elderly women with a platform to share their stories. It is time to amplify their voices, celebrate their achievements, and foster a more inclusive world that truly values women of all ages.
